Texas Hold'em hand rankings chart with WPT Global display names
Texas Hold’em hands rank from highest to lowest: royal flush > straight flush > four of a kind > full house > flush > straight > three of a kind > two pair > one pair > high card. Each player makes the best five-card hand from their two hole cards and the five community cards, using any number of hole cards.
The names below are the ones the WPT Global app shows in its hand strength indicator and showdown results.

Breaking ties within the same hand
Section titled “Breaking ties within the same hand”Suits have no rank. When two hands are the same type, compare card values:
- One pair, two pair, three of a kind, four of a kind: compare the matched cards first, then the remaining single cards (kickers). For example, A-A-K beats A-A-Q.
- Two pair: compare the higher pair, then the lower pair, then the kicker.
- Straight, straight flush: compare the highest card. A 10-high straight beats a 9-high straight.
- Flush, high card: compare card by card, starting from the highest.
- Full house: compare the three of a kind first, then the pair.
- If all five cards are equal in value, the pot is split.
The ace can play as a 1
Section titled “The ace can play as a 1”The ace is the highest card, but in a straight it can also play as a 1: A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest straight. The ace can’t wrap around, so Q-K-A-2-3 is not a straight.
Short Deck and Omaha differences
Section titled “Short Deck and Omaha differences”| Game | Ranking differences | Details |
|---|---|---|
Short Deck | Only flush and full house swap (flush > full house); a straight still beats three of a kind; the lowest straight is A-6-7-8-9 | Short Deck rules |
PLO | Same ranking order as Hold’em, but you must use exactly 2 hole cards | Omaha rules |
Hand strength indicator
Section titled “Hand strength indicator”WPT Global tables have a hand strength indicator, so you don’t need to work out your hand yourself:
- Once your hole cards are dealt, your current made hand (for example
Two Pair) appears next to them and updates with each community card. - In Omaha (PLO), it highlights which hole cards make up the hand, so you can confirm you’re using exactly 2.
- At showdown, the hands of players who show their cards are displayed too, so it’s clear who won.
The indicator only shows what you’ve made right now. It doesn’t mean you’re winning; your opponent may have a better hand.
What is the order of Texas Hold'em hand rankings?
From highest to lowest: royal flush, straight flush, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, three of a kind, two pair, one pair, high card.
Which is higher, a flush or a straight?
In Texas Hold'em a flush beats a straight. The same is true in Short Deck, where a flush also beats a full house.
How do two flushes compare?
Compare the highest card first, then work down card by card. For example, an ace-high flush beats a king-high flush; if the highest cards are equal, compare the second-highest, and so on. Suits have no rank.
Is A-2-3-4-5 a straight?
Yes. It's the lowest straight in Texas Hold'em, with the ace playing as a 1. Short Deck has no 2s through 5s, so its lowest straight is A-6-7-8-9.
