WPT Global leaderboards: how weekly tournament leaderboard points work

The WPT Global weekly tournament leaderboard turns all your tournament results for the week into points, ranks players, and awards prizes. The points formula is public:

Points = √(buy-in × entrants ÷ place) × top-six multiplier

The higher the buy-in, the bigger the field and the better your finish, the more points you get. Below are the rules broken down, with worked examples.

These rules are based on the weekly leaderboard rules published by WPT Global and PokerNews (launched in 2023 and continued in 2024). Promotion rules can change, so always go by the announcement in the app’s promotions center (Promo) or on the official promotion page for the current period.

BoardEvents that count
MainTournaments with a buy-in under $27
High RollerTournaments with a buy-in of $27 or more

If you play both kinds in the same week, you build up points on both boards separately.

Most tournaments count. Events with satellite, ticket or qualifier in the name don’t, so satellites, ticket events and qualifiers are all excluded.

Each week runs from Monday 00:00 to Sunday 23:59 Eastern Time, and events are assigned to the week by their start time. The announcement specifies UTC-5; during US daylight saving time the window may shift by an hour, so check the promotion page. Points reset to zero after each week.

√(buy-in × entrants ÷ place) × top-six multiplier

Top-six multipliers:

PlaceMultiplier
1st× 1.5
2nd× 1.45
3rd× 1.4
4th× 1.35
5th× 1.3
6th× 1.25
7th and below× 1 (no bonus)

Example 1: $11 buy-in, 500 entrants, you finish 20th.

√(11 × 500 ÷ 20) = √275 ≈ 16.6 points

Example 2: Same event, you win it.

√(11 × 500 ÷ 1) × 1.5 = √5500 × 1.5 ≈ 74.2 × 1.5 ≈ 111.2 points

Example 3: $5.50 buy-in, a big 2,000-player field, you finish 50th.

√(5.5 × 2000 ÷ 50) = √220 ≈ 14.8 points

The examples show that your finishing place matters a lot. In the same event, the winner scores almost 7 times what 20th place does. Because of the square root, doubling the buy-in or the field size only multiplies your points by about 1.4, so climbing the leaderboard is about playing lots of events and going deep, not just picking high buy-ins.

Past weekly prizes were a mix of cash and tournament tickets, such as WPT World Championship satellite tickets:

  • Main board: top 100 get prizes.
  • High Roller board: top 5 get prizes.

The prize total and distribution can vary each period. Tickets go into your Backpack; see tickets and backpack.

  • In the app: the promotions center (Promo) or the leaderboard banner in the lobby opens the promotion page with the current week’s rankings and rules.
  • Official website: WPT Global publishes the weekly Main and High Roller results on its website.

Besides the weekly tournament leaderboard, WPT Global runs other leaderboard promotions, each with its own rules:

  • Series leaderboards: for example the Overdrive series in summer 2026, with a weekly period counting only events in the series.
  • Kings of Cash: a cash game leaderboard.
  • Poker Flips leaderboard: ranks Poker Flips players against each other. See Poker Flips.
  • Other limited-time promotions (such as PLO cash game promotions).

These promotions score differently from the weekly tournament leaderboard, so read the rules on each promotion page before you take part.

How are WPT Global leaderboard points calculated?

The weekly tournament leaderboard formula is √(buy-in × entrants ÷ your place) × top-six multiplier. Higher buy-ins, bigger fields and better finishes score more, and a top-six finish is multiplied by 1.25 to 1.5.

Which tournaments count toward the leaderboard?

Most tournaments do, but events with satellite, ticket or qualifier in the name don't. Buy-ins under $27 count toward the Main board, and $27 and up toward the High Roller board.

When does the leaderboard reset?

Weekly. Each period runs Monday 00:00 to Sunday 23:59 Eastern Time (UTC-5). Events are assigned to the week they start in, and the next week starts from zero.

What are the leaderboard prizes?

Past weekly prizes were cash plus tournament tickets (such as WPT World Championship satellite tickets), paying the top 100 on the Main board and the top 5 on the High Roller board. Check the current promotion page for the actual prizes and number of places.
